Kitchen Remodeling Tips

When most people hear the phrase kitchen remodeling the first thing that comes to their minds is complicated process that involves demolishing kitchen walls, replacing cupboards and installing new appliances. While this may contain some truth, it is not always the case. Kitchen remodeling can be as simple as doing kitchen cabinet re-facing. Cabinet re-facing is an affordable alternative to buying new kitchen cabinets. The best thing about this technique is that the kitchen will look much better after the process.

If you are planning to sell your house, you can increase its value by upgrading the kitchen, bathroom and the flooring of the house. For best results, the new kitchen decor should be neutral but modern. This will make it easy for the new owners to redecorate according to their personal taste and preferences. Apart from doing kitchen cupboard resurfacing, you can also change lighting fixtures in the house, upgrade to contemporary lighting. It is important to ensure that the lighting fixture chosen matches the re-faced cupboards.

When it comes to kitchen counters, you may have to replace the existing counter with a new counter. This is because re-facing can be more expensive compared to replacement in this case. When planning for the remodeling, you may want to consider using Formica counter tops  of different patterns and colors.  If you can afford a granite countertop, I highly recommend you have one installed.  It makes a possibly dull kitchen look very upscale.

Kitchen remodeling does not have to be an expensive affair especially if you do some of the easier interior decorating changes  yourself. You can save a lot of money by re-facing the cabinets in your kitchen, or if your cabinetry is in good shape but the wood is looking very worn out, use one of the new stain products that have the polyurethane already in it.  I have just used some on my bathroom cabinetry and it looks beautiful. After installing new lighting fixtures, you may want to consider painting the kitchen walls with a different color.  Your kitchen color theme is up to your interior design preference.  Remember the kitchen is where a lot of your time is spent so you want it to be pleasing to the eye and to compliment your kitchen cabinets.  If your cabinetry is very dark, you wouldn’t also want a dark color on your wall would you.  You would want a nice light and breezy color so that there is nice contrast between your cabinetry and your walls.  Take the colors of your kitchen backsplash and go to the paint store and match a color to the lightest color of the tiles, it will create a stunning look for your kitchen.

Last but not least, you should never forget to remodel your kitchen floor. This is usually the last process in  kitchen remodeling. Getting an experienced person to remodel your kitchen is very important but not always necessary. If you choose to go with a professional kitchen remodeler, he or she should know how to install different types of floors such as ceramic tiles, hardwood flooring or even vinyl flooring.

The most important factor to consider when it comes to kitchen remodeling is the type of decor to use, whether casual, contemporary or country decor.  But don’t get too personalized if you are planning on selling your home in the very near future.
